ON A recent visit to Gloucester, Ukip leadership front runner Diane James, apparently made the absurd, but dangerous, suggestion that Nigel Farage should be made a lord.
There can be no place in our second chamber for those who encourage ferment hatred and xenophobia.
During the referendum campaign, Farage exploited vulnerable refugees in the detestable and now infamous ‘Breaking Point’ poster.
Since the referendum result, he has appeared on stage alongside Donald Trump, aligning himself with the vile extremism of this deeply unpopular US Presidential candidate.
It is clear that Farage has shown himself unfit to represent our diverse and multicultural society in the UK.
The suggestion from Diane James that her erstwhile leader might gently glide into the upper house also reveals the hollow lie of Ukip as a party of the people taking power back from elites.
Greens on the other hand have long campaigned for a fully elected second chamber and Green Baroness Jenny Jones is currently steering a Bill through the Lords to achieve this.
