ON the decision to close Stroud Minor Injuries Unit overnight, despite significant public opposition.

Posted by Mad in Stroud: I would personally put money on the relationship between service users who require after 11pm treatments and alcohol consumption. Close the pubs, bars and booze-shops earlier!

Posted by nuttyasafruitcake: It’s so very sad that Stroud and Cirencester MIU will close overnight, nice of bosses to ignore public feeling, I bet they won’t advertise very well that it’s closing overnight, you can bet your life that not everyone will know.

On the Bear Hunt Bussage.

Posted by danielson80: Took the kids to the Bear Hunt last Saturday and it was wonderful. Some of the other hunts are just too long but this one is just the right length for little ones. I would definitely recommend going. We’re looking forward to next year already!

On the motion approved by Gloucestershire County Council’s to tackle hate crime and discrimination.

Posted by robertpaterson3: Committing a hate crime against an immigrant or any other foreigner is pathetic but what about the hate crimes white people commit against each other? There’s plenty of that every day. How about these councillors move some ‘motions’ against that too.

Posted by Haloge: Whatever happened to ‘free speech’ and the right to offend? “To criticize a person for their race is manifestly irrational and ridiculous, but to criticize their religion, that is a right. That is a freedom. The freedom to criticize ideas, any ideas – even if they are sincerely held beliefs – is one of the fundamental freedoms of society,” – Rowan Atkinson.

Posted by Crow: People are always trying to come up with fundamental theories for ideas like freedom of speech. Fundamental; simple, easy to implement, whereas the answer is more complex and you always need to think, and always need to debate. Causing offence can also be oppressive, it depends on the situation. Eg a work collogue colleague who always ridicules someone for their beliefs – that can amount to harassment.

Posted by Haloge: Human beings have rights. Ideas, beliefs, theories, opinions and religions do not and should be open to debate, humour and ridicule. To suggest otherwise is to put yet another nail into the coffin of free speech.
