THE September Concert, at Purton 1945 (approx) – The Fox and Goose Days.

Remembering at Halmore (nr Berkeley). I love and have always loved the singing Septembers of the years of my life when young. Me and my aunts, would put on concerts for money, going to men at the war, yes war years were awful of course so we enjoyed doing these concerts.

Purton schoolroom was the place to go and Aunt Hilda had a little Morris 8 car and she would play the piano.

Aunt Edie was blondly beautiful and had a lovely soprano voice.

She had been having an affair with a Scottish captain but he was still, married so she was told not to see him again till he was free to marry her.

That night she sang Lover Come Back To Me and her heart was in the singing.

I sang That September In The Rain, I enjoyed singing it was a happy, lovely night remembering it is good for me fun times in deed.

The Fox and Goose was a popular pub, singing was enjoyed by all the villagers, sad they have all gone now lovely, giving family.

September nights drawing in blackberry picking, and picking up apples for cider making, country ways, youth’s enjoyment then boyfriends so good to remember, lucky me, to have a singing family.
