WE HAVE read with interest your reports and letters regarding the roadworks in Stonehouse which we agree were a total shambles.

Enough has been said on social media regarding the roadworks and the incompetent way they were carried out.

Some deliveries took 40 minutes to travel from Ryeford to the High Street.

The icing on the cake is the fact that after the works were finished the plant equipment used has been parked in the two disabled parking spaces, on the pavement, and over part of the Keep Clear markings outside the Computer Shop in the High Street for a week.

This is totally unacceptable.

The Keep Clear markings are there for a reason, as it enables those exiting Orchard Place a clear line of vision to conduct their manoeuvre in safety from what is a dangerous junction when leaving their homes and businesses behind the top end of the High Street.

The parking has also caused further hardship to businesses and disabled drivers visiting Stonehouse.

There is no reason for them to be left there.

The businesses in Stonehouse have suffered enough financially from the weeks of road works and traffic lights, and rely on passing trade and disabled residents to be able to park close to the shops.

Experience from the initial works four years ago shows that some of the trade will never return.

Why have the vehicles not been given a parking ticket every day they have been there?

We call publicly upon MP Neil Carmichael, county councillor Lesley Williams, the relevant district councillors and town councillors to conduct a full inquiry as to why these vehicles are still there a week after the works have been finished.
