MAY I remind Richard Ford (UKIP) that before the referendum, his “glorious” leader said that a 52:48 majority to Remain would not be a conclusive result.

Therefore it is perfectly legitimate for Remainers to voice their opposition.

52 per cent of the 72 per cent of the electorate that voted, equates to 37 per cent voting to leave, or 25 per cent of the population.

This is way short of the majority required to enforce something of this magnitude.

Mr Ford also seems to have conveniently forgotten that we have not, as yet, actually left the EU.

Therefore it is not surprising that Armageddon has not yet arrived.

However, quite enough damage has been done on the mere perception of the UK leaving the EU.

Can he recall that the value of our currency has already fallen by 10 per cent, or that we have fallen from being the fifth largest economy in the world to the sixth?

He is also misleading in stating that no major firms will be relocating from the City of London.

That will not become clear until two years after Article 50 has been triggered and depends entirely on whether we can retain passporting rights to trade with the rest of Europe.

If we cannot, then city firms will leave in droves and the resultant fall in GDP will make the correct figure of £136 million a week given to the EU look like the funding for a vicarage tea party.

I can see the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on the horizon.

As the likely outcome of Brexit is that all households will be 20 per cent poorer, it would be morally reprehensible not to try to prevent the poorest in society from suffering real deprivation.

So rise up Remainers, it’s not too late too save our country!
