The school run

WE’D move we thought, for a more convenient time

With transport links right down the line.

Well we found a house. So job done

Oh! Don’t buy there came the cry, you’ve the school run.

Now at taking advice I’ll admit, we’re not very good

But to take heed of that we really should.

We didn’t and so we moved.

Now all went well for a year or two

But then the forecast, it all came true.

The road a parking lot, with no need to pay

With seven hours being the maximum stay.

From my comfy armchair my view a car

Huge and static out there on the tar.

Serves you right, I hear you say, to buy on the school run, you rue the day,

So I pondered on this conundrum in the depth of the night

When I came up with a solution, I finally saw the light.

The authorities I decided are missing a trick

With a little work this problem they could lick.

A permit bought with each new term, but I’m afraid with the uproar they would have to stay firm.

With a specified time of course, say an hour no more

That’s time surely, to drop their children off at the door.

Now over stay and there’d be a fine

To pay by post or on line.

Now just think how much money they would take

If only a little effort they would make.

A revenue source, right on tap, and with this wealth they could plug the gap.

To restore some of the cuts that’s had to be made

If their plans were sound and well laid.

A rate rebate, of course, when all is done, for those of us on the end of the school run.
