ON the new waste and recycling service which starts next week.

Posted by Joe Stroud: How to devalue housing and make a pretty area look a total mess in one fell swoop, piles of coloured plastic bins at every door and left strewn over drives and pavements on collection day. Few houses in the valley villages areas have space for these things but we do have a very good recycling plant at Horsley which many people go to. Why can’t we opt to sort our rubbish and take it there with a council tax reduction for doing so? I’d prefer to do that rather than have these ghastly things on the streets. I know some premises can have bags instead but the bins are being forced onto so many inappropriate roads and lanes. This once beautiful area is becoming just another suburban plastic mess. If your property is in an AONB, which many are around here, you should be able to reject these things on the basis that they do not fit in an AONB and we keep the area beautiful ourselves - these eyesore bins negate every one of those efforts.

Posted by mattyfrog: To be fair, Joe, and as much as I hate the idea of yet another bin, there are probably about 20+ thousand households in the Stroud area and they can’t all go to the same recycling centre on a weekly basis. Your AONB won’t remain one if that happens.

On the last minute planning application for a supermarket, drive-through coffee shop and up to 50 new houses on the Daniels Industrial Estate in Dudbridge.

Posted by StroudMan1: Hardly a ‘big decision’ for the planners! They’ve already refused Asda on the Daniels site. This is blatant opportunism to try and delay a popular Aldi store. Come on SDC, give us the Aldi we want at Bath Road!

Posted by joesoapsbrother: Please don’t give SDC planners another reason to prevaricate. All the ‘hoo-har’ of Stroud ‘supermarket wars’ from 18 months has resulted in absolutely nothing. No ASDA, no Lidl, no Aldi and now another coffee shop?

Posted by Pisces123: Another coffee chain, just what Stroud needs.......not! Another supermarket....really! All sweetened with the promise of more houses that will probably be out of the price range of our local youngsters.....oh of course there will probably be a percentage of ‘affordable’ houses, that nobody can afford!
