I NOTICE from the Facebook page of the Gloucester Liberal Democrats that they are foursquare behind a suggestion that much, much more should be done locally to celebrate the events surrounding the Siege of Gloucester in 1643.
Ukip Gloucester would like to align themselves with these sentiments, particularly as our friend’s support is couched in the following terms: “We should do more to commemorate the Siege of Gloucester in 1643. Our ancestors did us proud as they fought on the side of Parliament and democracy against an absolutist monarch”.”
With only a minimal but vital difference, these were exactly the reasons why the people of Gloucester and Leave/Ukip voted “out” in the referendum on June 23, 2016.
Might we therefore expect any future, triumphal celebrations in our fine City to include a reference to this year’s similarly historic date when freedom and democracy were once again the victors?
