On the construction work which has begun on the controversial Javelin Park incinerator.

Posted by James Makepeace: This is not democracy in action. Many have fought so hard to prevent this appalling monster being construction at Javelin Park.

Posted by joesoapsbrother: James Makepeace misses two points.

1) This plant overcomes the need to be burying our rubbish which is criminal.

2) It generates electricity. We are going to be energy starved in this country if all the ‘greenies’ get their way. No coal, gas, nuclear, fracking ..... all very worthy I’m sure but not very practical. I cannot believe this plant will not be highly regulated and policed for it’s emissions.

Get it built I say. Please stop moaning. Most objectors have no positive contribution but when the lights go out they will be the first to moan.

Posted by Frampton58: Well said, it was only a minority of people protesting about this site the majority kept quite. Just because you shout the loudest doesn’t mean you can bully the majority. Just look at Hempstead landfill site, the problems that will last for decades as the rubbish rots. About time an alternative facility was commissioned.

On the death of Daphne Yolland.

Posted by Lynn Hanks: Thinking of your family at this sad time. You were a lovely, kind hearted, wonderful teacher and I’m so glad you were my son’s reception class teacher at Rodborough Primary School. You always had time to stop and natter of the ‘good old days’ when we met. Thank you and God bless you.

On the two competing plans for new supermarkets in Bath Road, Stroud.

Posted by John WR: It will end up like the Cainscross/Dudbridge Lidl site where a sign went up and nothing else will happen for years, if at all. Why does Stroud think it is so special when even higher profile towns around all have at least one discount store available. Do these councillors really think they represent the views of the majority of Stroud residents?

Posted by Wickedone: Why are people so surprised at the council’s decision to stop an Aldi being built in Stroud. The only planning applications they are capable of granting are coffee shop.

They need to think of the real Stroudies and what they want rather than pandering to all the arty greenies who have now high-jacked our once thriving little town into the joke of the Cotswolds.
