HOW crazy to prevent Aldi from opening a supermarket in the area.
Although it may well be that there are good reasons why the Bath Road Trading Estate is not ideal, hopefully Aldi will continue to aim to have a presence in the area, and they should be given every encouragement.
Aldi have proven popularity with shoppers elsewhere, and Stroud District Council should not deny locals the same opportunity to save money.
Companies such as Aldi and Lidl provide much needed competition with the major supermarkets, which currently only comes in a very limited way from the in-town cut-price shops, which do not carry all of the brands the public seek, and are not convenient to those living outside the town.
Let’s hope that a new planning application appears in the near future from one of these companies.
