ON the calls for an activated speed sign in Stratford Road, Stroud.

Posted by kjag23: They’ll just make it 20mph like with every other road in the county.

Posted by Exhaustedwithpeople: Speed humps would be the way I would go in Stratford Road, signs don’t slow the young ones down but humps would.

Posted by Mad in Stroud: Spot on – humps are cheap and they do the job.

Posted by Ispeak4U: I assume we’re talking about putting this sign on the one stretch of Stratford Road where traffic is actually able to flow freely?

Not in the 10 yards of road between the Beeches Green roundabout and the pedestrian crossing.

Not in the 20 yards between this crossing and the next crossing area at Tesco roundabout.

Not in the further 20 yards up the hill to where a completely pointless mini-roundabout sits.

Not between this mini-roundabout and the leisure centre roundabout 10 yards along the road.

Not between that roundabout and the college roundabout which is again within sight of the former.

Not between the college roundabout and the pedestrian crossing which is 50 yards down the road.

But in the 300 yards where you are actually able to drive a vehicle on a public road without your foot on the brake! That bit?

Where is the justification for this sign? Where is the evidence that it’s needed? I’m sure if you’re proposing we spend £6k-£10k in today’s climate you have a darn good reason for it?

Incidentally, door-to-door petitions are completely worthless. If you knock on someone’s door and ask them to sign a petition, unless they are actively against your cause most will sign just to get you to go away! Maybe if those 200 people care so much about getting yet another useless bit of street furniture added to the roadside they can put their hands in their pockets and pay for it themselves?

On the 84-year-old woman from Leonard Stanley who was left waiting for 10 hours to have her dislocated shoulder put back in place due to problems in the NHS.

Posted by dave1167: What a disgrace but I’m not surprised. I was in A&E recently and waited six hours for an ambulance to take me to Cheltenham Hospital late on Christmas Eve. In the end the staff had to dial 999. Eventually a crew turned up and they were agency staff. One came from Birmingham.
