DEAR letters page, on Easter Monday I was walking with my dog, a small collie, up Doverow Hill from Stonehouse.

I had with me, my granddaughter and great granddaughter – who is four-and-a-half, she was holding my hand.

As we got to the top of the hill, near the start of the wood, I heard a loud, deep barking, I knew it must be a large dog, I could also hear someone shouting.

I could see a large dog trying to find a way through the ‘kissing’ gate.

Having found a way through, it came charging down the hill, barking loudly and looking very aggressive – straight at us.

It immediately attacked my dog, I shouted at it to stop, but it kept circling my great granddaughter and me, trying to dart in to bite.

Having trained and handled dogs for very many years, I knew that I must not let it get behind us, it darted in to bite my dog and my great granddaughter, fortunately she was wearing a thick coat, so ripped that instead.

The man who owned it, came racing down the hill shouting at it and trying to pull it away, eventually he managed to get it away.

He did apologise but I was so angry and told him, the dog should either be on a lead, or muzzled, possible both – this was a dangerous dog and things could have ended very differently.

Beware of a very large aggressive German shepherd.

Take a different route or turn back – this is a very dangerous dog.
