RECENTLY you reported that Stroud scouts were looking for more suitable accommodation than their current premises in Hollow Lane.
There is, however, a currently unused building - The Hut which is actually a substantial detached block built community hall in Folly Lane which was built in the 1980s actually as a scout hut.
I understand this was deemed to be surplus to the scouts’ requirements some years ago and passed to Stroud Mencap, which no longer use it.
The Hut used to be available for community activities as well but now neglected and needing some refurbishment (although perfectly sound and far from derelict) would seem to be much superior to the cramped old coach house they now use.
Refurbished, apart from offering modern amenities and ample parking, this is located on the edge of the built up area ideal for outdoor activities yet is as convenient from the town centre as their current accommodation.
The Hut is rapidly becoming an eyesore but could easily be brought back into use for the benefit of the scouts and for the community alike.
