IN RESPONSE to CJ Cleaver’s letter (June 14) “It’s all political” we wish to point out that both Day’s Cottage and Stroud Brewery are founded on strong environmental principles, and have both won numerous environmental awards.
It is therefore completely in keeping with such principles that we have followed the incinerator debate, and, having done our research (perhaps he would like to read…earthisland.org/journal/index.php/elist/eListRead/incineration_the_biggest_obstacle_to_zero_waste..) were happy to put our names to the anti incinerator campaign.
On top of the wider environmental concerns, it is clear to us that alternatives to the incinerator also offer important economic and social benefits.
He is quite correct that it is political, but only in the sense that to protect the environment, something we have dedicated many years of our lives to, it is not enough to simply run our businesses in ways that protect and enhance the natural landscape of Gloucestershire alone.
The arguments run deeper and wider and if we wish to protect the world for the future we must take action against such projects, and that takes political will.
