YOUR letters page (June 28) asks for views on a station for Stonehouse on the Bristol line.
Of course it should be made easier to use the train through more frequent services now the line to Swindon has been redoubled.
This also calls for making it possible to change trains, as the lines from Gloucester to Bristol and Swindon run next to each other for several miles north of Stonehouse.
But rather than creating two stations for a relatively small town, it would be better to create a proper interchange, linked to new housing that would pay for the improvements as the Stroud Futures Group proposed.
The county council commissioned advice which suggests the best location of all for a new station would be near Quedgeley at Hunts Grove.
This could form a South Gloucester Parkway station.
The SwiftRail services we have proposed (see attached visualisation) would make the most of the rail corridor, cut congestion on the roads, support healthier life styles, and concentrate development in the most sustainable locations.
