IT WOULD be such a shame if this year’s Stroud Show was the last.

At the AGM, Edna Powell, the founder and organiser of the revised show since 2002, Michelle Welsh, Tony and Mavis Wyatt all indicated they would be stepping down.

They have been the mainstay of all the hard work and organisation that is needed to make a local show such a great success.

Unless someone steps forward, I must say this is going to be a hard act to follow, Stroud Show will be no longer.

So many people are required to help including the loyal band who erect all the tents the day before and take them down the following day.

Without these helpers, the show could not run.

I have been going to Stroud Show since I was a child then taking my children and grandchildren, the atmosphere was brilliant and it was lovely to meet old friends and families we have not seen for years.

Unfortunately, the weather was against us this year, but once the rain had stopped the Stroud people did not let us down and arrived in large numbers to make the day a great success.

Much money is raised for local charities by all the stalls.

It was a pity the livestock had to be cancelled as this is such an integral part of a country show, but this was unavoidable and beyond the committee’s control.

We should all be very grateful to Edna and her committee for the many years of pleasure they have given to Stroud.

Let us hope new volunteers come forward.
