ON Stroud District Council’s review of car parking charges.

Posted by BobinStroud: So how much are they wanting to ‘hike’ the prices up to? Not once has it been mentioned, they may want to increase the hourly fee quite reasonably. Personally I think it’s unfair that only the car parks in Stroud and Stonehouse have fees, either all or none, that’s fairer.

Posted by TonyStroud: Get real people, the current charges are too low, and have been kept artificially low. If SDC was more interested in economics than being popular, the charges should have increased gradually each year, and no need for a ‘hike’. If you want to protect the town centre, stop SDC giving planning permission for supermarkets and out of town shopping. But that’s what the public seems to want.

Posted by Gothamite: Seems SDC is determined that Stroud will become a ghost own.

Posted by charmedone: Well-done SDC, just another nail in the coffin that was once a super little town called Stroud. It’s time to say goodbye Stroud. There is nothing to tempt anybody in there right mind to want to pay more to park here.

Posted by MH: What a bunch of moaners. A lot of the commenters are on here. Some people just aren’t happy unless they get to exercise their whining rights. Stroud is a great little place and paying a bit more to park my car won’t stop me from going into town.

On Stroud Green Party’s call for Gloucestershire County Council to change its vehicles to electric or low emission alternatives.

Posted by Stroudman: As usual the Greens are out selling their version of society without first considering if it would actually work. In this case it doesn’t.

Posted by Crow: Yes, maybe it is a good idea but the electricity still has to be generated to replace the petrol energy. Maybe this will push for more eco-electric generation, like solar, and wind, also nuclear. I can’t help feeling that there is a better solution, eg a renewable fuel, a renewable type of petrol, or maybe hydrogen, which will make it easier to refuel one day.

Posted by TigerTigerBurningBright: Making petrol and diesel uses loads of electricity.

Posted by burtthebike: An excellent initiative which will reduce local pollution. But it won’t do anything for congestion or danger from vehicles. Far more effective is increasing cycling. Cheaper than electric vehicles, no pollution at all, and it has massive health benefits.
