I BEG to differ from Alma Geddin about the responsibilities of a member of parliament (‘Bamboozled!,’ SNJ letters, September 13).
An MP should be prepared to respond courteously to all correspondents, whatever their political party or affiliation – heaven knows they get enough expenses to be able to do so.
Neil Carmichael isn’t the only Conservative MP in our region to be accused of such a dereliction of duty.
But credit where it’s due, not all Tory MPs are like this.
I lived in Roehampton for some years, and the Conservative MP, Justine Greening, always answered my letters fully, even though it would have been clear to her and her assistants that I’m no Tory!
Perhaps she’s just a good, ethically-sound MP, or might it be that when MPs believe that even a monkey wearing the right colour rosette in their seat would get in, they just needn’t bother?
Me thinks that any future Stroud Tory incumbent will never take the voters of this great constituency for granted again.
