ON Ecotricity’s decision to temporarily drop plans for the Eco Park Green Technology Hub near junction 13 of the M5.

Posted by TigerTigerBurningBright: It wasn’t going to create 4,000 jobs, it was going to build buildings that might hold 4,000 employees. There’s a difference.

Posted by BobinStroud: Exactly, plenty of empty offices in Stonehouse business park, and room to build more, there was never a need for a new business park.

Posted by Salendine: Oh dear, looks like the old wind farm subsidies aren’t what they used to be. Blaming the council is poor form. Suggest the bloke spends on the team rather than a new stadium. As of today they are heading straight back to the conference. It was always going to be tough, but the manager and team appear to be in total disarray.

Posted by Commscoach1: A shame it’s being dropped, and shows that SDC hasn’t got a great capacity for bigger thinking and opening up the economy more. Have been involved in projects bringing hundreds of millions of pounds of investment and regenerated major cities and counties along with towns comparable to Stroud. The district has lost another great opportunity. It was a development which would have not only brought jobs yet would have opened up other inward investment opportunities and strengthened the economy both on the work and leisure fronts, creating greater possibilities through the Stroud Valleys from Eastington through to Chalford with the canal and canalside development, such as at Thrupp more likely as well.

Posted by Salendine: Sorry but that is simply not the case. The Stroud area by and large does not have an employment issue, nor does it particularly need regenerating, and so if 4,000 jobs really did exist then they would have been commuting in from other areas. Why do you think he chose next to the M5? The idea that Stroud would benefit is rather laughable. This isn’t the regeneration projects that you may have been involved with previously. Stroud needs some carefully targeted development to take advantage of brown field sites including the example of Thrupp (or Brimscombe Port) that you mention. It doesn’t need 4,000 more vehicle movements in to one specific area. We don’t have the infrastructure.

Posted by Commscoach1: SDC and GCC have for far too long been too inward looking, rather than inward investment looking.
