NOT everybody may know that Peter Bateman could also be a extremely generous to those less fortunate than himself.
When the late Tony Organ’s home in Cashes Green was threatened with repossession about 20 years ago, Peter joined a small group who were prepared to spend thousands of their own money buying-off the debt thereby allowing Tony to continue in occupation.
Unfortunately in those days building societies were far less flexible than they have become - and the scheme couldn’t be implemented.
Tony Organ became homeless, was offered hospitality for some time at Rodborough Tabernacle and spent weeks sleeping in his car before eventually getting a council house.
Peter’s best efforts couldn’t overcome the rigidity of the building society but his kindness and generosity was beyond doubt.
