GLOUCESTER have swooped for  Worcester Warriors flanker Matt Kvesic, who will be moving to Kingsholm for the 2013-14 season.

The 20-year-old, a product of the Academy system at Sixways, is one of the most promising young talents in English club rugby, and his signing is a real statement of intent for Gloucester.

Kvesic made his first team bow for the Warriors in the LV= Cup in 2009-10, before featuring regularly in the first team in the 2010-11 Championship winning season.

He has since gone on to become a fixture in the first team set up, and has made more than 50 appearances.

He captained England U18s, was also capped at U20 level and has recently been called up by Stuart Lancaster to train with England’s senior squad ahead of the RBS Six Nations campaign.

He is the first new signing confirmed for 2013-14, and director of rugby Nigel Davies feels he will be a fine addition to the squad.

He said: “Matt’s a quality player, one we’ve admired for some time, and we’re delighted that he’s decided to commit to Gloucester.

“He’s not yet 21, but already has considerable experience at Premiership level. The fact that England have called him up to train with them shows how much they think of him.

“He’s a true openside, who does the fetching and gathering and acts as a link between backs and forwards. We’re looking forward to him arriving in the summer.”

Kvesic himself confirmed that it’s not been an easy decision, but he feels that the move down the M5 is the right one for him.

“Worcester Warriors is all I’ve known to date, and I’ll always be grateful to them for helping me achieve what I have in the game so far. The decision to leave has been a tough one to arrive at.

“However, when I spoke to Nigel Davies and he outlined Gloucester’s plans for the future, and spoke about the squad he is assembling and where I would fit in, I was excited about the prospect and felt Gloucester would be the right place for me to help take my game to the next level.

“For the rest of the season though, I’m a Worcester player and will continue to give 100% every time I pull on the shirt to help us finish the season as strongly as possible.”
