SHORTWOOD United gained the derby day bragging rights as former Bishops Cleeve striker Joey Tustain hit the only goal of the game, writes Jim Cunneen.

The Wood boasted six former Cleeve players in their ranks and should have put the game out of sight against Alex Sykes' bottom of the table outfit.

The Nailsworth side poured forward and former Cleeve midfielder Tim Haddock flashed a header wide after eight minutes and then Tustain forced ex- Forest Green keeper James Nortei into a save.

Shortwood took the lead after 31 minutes. Haddock put another former Cleeve man John Cant away down the left and his far post cross was met perfectly by the head of Tustain. In the second half, an excellent cross from former Cheltenham Town trainee Callum Brown was powerfully met by Haddock's head, but Nortei saved well. Wood continued to dominate.

Tustain shot too close to the keeper and Matt Bennett blazed wastefully wide. Luke Gullick fired over before Wood were gifted a golden opportunity to double the score. TJ Bohane appeared to be superbly tackled by Hoyle, but the referee awarded a penalty.

There was a semblance of justice when Nortei made a fine save to deny James Coates.

SHORTWOOD: King, Brown, Bennett, Axton, Coates, Haddock, Tustain (Bohane 70), Parrott, Gullick (Slack 79), Baldwin, Cant (Langworthy 61).

Star Player: Alton Axton.
