SHORTWOOD captain Jake Parrott and team-mate James Baldwin fly off to Russia on Friday to represent Team GB at the World University Games.

Parrott and Baldwin, who study at Harpury College, helped the Team GB squad to 4-0 hammering of Prestatyn Town on Wednesday - by narrowly edging past Welsh Premier champions The New Saints on Saturday in two warm up matches ahead of their trip to Moscow.

The squad led by ex-Nuneaton and Kettering coach James Ellis and former Forest Green striker Steve Guinan will also face Champions League regulars CSKA in a final friendly in Moscow before heading 800 miles east to the athletes' village.

The academics also feature former Forest Green defender Luke Graham, the new player-coach at Conference Premier Hereford United.

They bright sparks are in the same group as Malaysia, who they play on July 5, Algeria and an Italian side picked predominantly from Serie B, the second tier of their professional game.

Also known as the World University Games or World Student Games, the Universiade is the second largest sport participation event in the world behind the Summer Olympics with 13,500 University athletes from 170 countries due to take part in Kuzan 2013.
