Bit of Turkish delight for golfer Little
FORMER European Tour player Stuart Little has a chance of returning to the tour for selected events next year after qualifying for the PGA Titleist Play-Offs in Turkey, writes Pete Godsiff.
After a nerve-wracking wait at Woodbury Park following an average return in the final event of the season, the Race to Woodbury Park Tournament, in association with Johnnie Walker, the Minch New Course golfer was confirmed in second place in the West Region standings.
He resisted the challenge of another ex-Tour man Sion Bebb (Vale Hotel) who was the only other realistic challenger to the leading three before the event.
Leader Liam Bond (St Pierre) triumphed after a three-hole play-off against Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) to win his fourth event in six outings and remain No1. Richard Dinsdale (Parc Golf Academy) consolidated third place by finishing 11th. Although Little was below his best, he shot 70 and 71 for a three-under-par return of 141, winning £160.
"It was just enough," said the relieved left-hander. "When I missed out on making another appearance in the PGA Cup team against America I set my sights on claiming a Play-Off place."
The leading players in the £15,000 Play-Offs in November qualify for selected entry into European Tour and Challenge tour events next year.
