Is Basil the dog barking mad to turn down Forest Green job?
DIVINE intervention isn’t going to help Forest Green after a Westland Highland terrier doggedly felt he would be barking mad to take on the vacant role at the New Lawn.
The late Basil Butler, the famous westie, who shot to national fame after he was pipped to the post by Sven Goran Eriksson for the England job in 2001.
But the football-mad canine, who passed away in January, sent a message from the ether indicating he dosen’t want to be considered for the role at Dale Vince’s Rovers, who have lacked any real bite in a wretched run of eight defeats from nine games.
Basil’s Rodborough-based owner and dog agent Stuart Butler said: “There has been hope expressed that a club situated on a road named 'Another Way' might find a place for a dead dog in some shape or form. But having talked to Basil's ashes, however, Basil has expressed a wish to rest in peace.”
