His loan spell was extended until the end of the season and he played a total of nine times for the Lincolnshire side.

After returning to Stoke in the summer, Alabi joined Mansfield Town on a one-month loan on October 31st although he featured just once for the Stags after getting sent-off on debut,Mansfield manager Paul Cox made it clear he wanted to extend the player loan spell.

Pennock said: “James is an explosive player who will bring lots of energy. I’ve known him since he came to Stoke as a 15-year-old and I worked with him as he came through the ranks, and he’s very hungry to do well.

“Reece is also an explosive players but we’ve got to manage his comeback from injury carefully, so James (Alabi) offers us that explosiveness and pace.”
