FLEDGLING goalkeeper Louis Scarpino-Cocking had only played three football matches before he was talented spotted.

Now the nine-year-old Westonbirt Prep School pupil has been signed by Swindon Town Academy.

Louis was first spotted by a Swindon Town scout after he had played just three matches with Wootton Bassett Town Football Club’s U9s.

“As he was only eight we felt he should have a season playing football before he got involved with the Academy,” said Louis’ dad Simon.

Before he discovered football, golf was Louis’ favourite sport. Even his position as keeper was by chance.

“I thought I would give goal a chance for a few games and then change positions,” said Louis.

Following a two-month trial with Swindon Town, Louis has now signed a contract. He trains four days a week after school and plays a match on Sunday.

His favourite teams are Chelsea - for his English part of his heritage – and Juventus FC for his Italian side. His favourite keeper is Chelsea’s Petr Cech.

Now Louis has set his sights on the Premier League. “I definitely want to play for any side in the Premier League,” he said.

Neil Shaw, headmaster of Westonbirt Prep School, said: “Louis’s determination and hard work is an inspiration to us all. He trains four afternoons a week after school and is so positive.”
