FOREST Green defender Jared Hodgkiss is putting his future on hold as his side eye a late play-off push.

The pint-sized Hodgkiss caught the eye on Saturday with a rare headed goal in Rovers' thrilling 3-2 victory over second-placed Cambridge United at the New Lawn .

Rovers' longest-serving player is of contract in the summer and the former West Brom man is banishing any immediate talks with boss Ady Pennock.

“To be honest I am not really thinking about my contract at the moment,” said Hodgkiss.

“I love it at Forest Green and want to stay. I will sit down with the gaffer at the end of the season and sort something out.”

With matches coming thick-and-fast, Hodgkiss is keen to take each game as it comes.

He added: “At the moment we just need to concentrate on our home clash with Braintree on Thursday night.

"We travel to Tamworth on Saturday and then face Grimsby Town at home on Tuesday, so by then we should know how much closer we are to the play-offs."

On Saturday, James Norwood fired Rovers ahead with a strike from outside the box, but the U's replied with a Josh Coulson header and Nathan Arnold's finish.

Rovers goalkeeper Sam Russell brought down Delano Sam-Yorke in the area, but saved Ryan Donaldson's spot-kick.

Hodgkiss nodded home from a Norwood cross and Danny Wright's six-yard tap-in won it against his former club, whose automatic promotion bid is dwindling.

Pennock was full of praise for his side in a match that wil lgo down as his finest in his short tenure.

"Everyone worked their socks off and you need that.

"We did concede a few goals during the first half and I was disappointed but we showed a lot of character.

"To win the game 3-2 is a fantastic achievement but this is only one game with three points.

"It was a big game for us in a big week, today was a massive test for us and we've come through it.

"In a game where you play four games we won't really train.

"We just have to help the lads recover and prepare for the games."
