Fleet Town1

Shortwood United 2

By Jim Cuneen

TWO spectacular goals from midfielder Adam Price gave play-off chasing Shortwood the points against a determined Fleet Town side.

The Wood are now a point outside the play-offs and are due to face Goldaming Town tomorrow at Meadowbank.

Co-manager Alex Sykes was delighted with the win.

He said: “Adam Price’s two goals were the difference today.

“It was a battle – they were a good side with quality, and we did what we had to do.”

Earlier, Price almost got his name on the score sheet after four minutes, but he shot straight at home keeper Pryce, who dropped his shot and was fortunate to see it bounce just the wrong side of the post.

However, Fleet responded with Carter smashing a shot off Ashton Herbert’s bar.

Shortwood nosed ahead on 13 minutes. Price fired a tremendous shot from 25 yards, which flew into the top corner.

Shortwood had an escape minutes later when Carter fired wide from close range, but there was to be no reprieve. White fired past Herbert for a deserved equaliser.

Wood regained the lead on 25 minutes. An attack broke down in the Fleet box, but the ball dropped to Price who curled a delightful shot with the outside of the boot.

Shortwood were generally on top in the second although White tested Herbert.

Jake Parrott headed wide and Pryce denied Kevin Slack as Wood looked for a third.

In the 75th minute Culley forced his way through down the right and his shot across goal missed the far post by inches with Slack unable to push the ball home.

The games one minute of controversy came five minutes from the end when Slack was bundled over in the box and then booked for his complaint. I At the other end, and Pryce denied Price his hat- trick with a fine tip over.
