FOREST Green striker Matty Taylor scored on his full England C debut – but it wasn’t enough to save the non-league Lions from defeat against Hungary under-19s in Budapest.

Taylor gave England hope of claiming a share of the spoils when he fired in their second goal from ten yards but Lazlo Toth scored five minutes later to wrap up Hungary’s 4-2 win in the international friendly clash.

A late call-up to the squad, Taylor was finally handed his first cap 18 months after a torrential downpour in Albania prevented him from making his debut.

Although he scored twice for England C against Sparta Prague B a week earlier, that wasn’t treated as a full friendly international.

Following England’s 1-0 defeat at Slovakia under-23s in Group A of the International Challenge Trophy, manager Paul Fairclough threw Taylor into the starting line-up to face Hungary, but they found themselves 2-0 down at half-time.

Matty Pearson pulled a goal back for England seven minutes into the second half but they found themselves two goals down once again on the hour mark and Taylor’s goal proved to be just a consolation.

Fellow Forest Green striker James Norwood came on as a second half substitute for England.
