FORMER Dursley youth player Charlie Sharples scored a try for an England XV in their 39-29 defeat to the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday.
The Gloucester winger, who grew up in Stroud, went over in the first half to give England a 15-7 lead, but the star-studded invitational side proved too strong in the end.
Sharples won his last England cap against Australia in November 2012 and his efforts were not enough to earn a place on the plane to tour New Zealand with a second group of players departing this week.
He said on Twitter: “Great to pull on an England shirt again today at twickenham, shame about the result but what a fantastic experience! Now time for a rest!”
