QUEDGELEY'S Scott Redding declared himself happy with progress, after finishing the opening day in Barcelona 13th on the timesheet.

For Redding this was his first appearance at the Montmeló circuit aboard a MotoGP machine but, after learning his way during this morning’s first session, the 21-year-old Briton posted a time of 1’43.612 in this afternoon’s 45-minute free practice, to finish once again as the highest placed production Honda rider.

Redding said: “Overall I’m pretty happy. It’s been a little difficult today because of the big difference in track temperature and conditions between the morning and afternoon sessions.

"The track felt a little greasy this afternoon, but that’s when I set my fastest time of the day, which is quite good. I made a few mistakes on my fastest lap, although it felt pretty good, so there should be more to come tomorrow.

"We also need to decide on the race tyre, as we’re not sure just yet, but this we will know after just a few laps tomorrow. This has never been one of my favourite circuits, but it’s great fun to ride on a MotoGP bike, especially when you spin up the rear tyre.”
