FOREST Green's management and playing staff returned to pre-season training today at Brimscombe-based Inside Football facility.

Fitness coach Neil Withington and physio Paul Maxwell put the squad through a taxing strength and conditioning morning, which also involved the lung-busting  yo-yo test-a vairation of the bleep test.

New signings Elliott Frear, Rob Sinclair, David Pipe and Sam Wedgbury were in attendance along with striker Andy Mangan.

Wedgbury, who joined on a two-year deal from Stevenage, grabbed the pre-season bragging rights by winning the yo-yo test. The hard-running midfielder held off the challenge of new-faces Frear, Sinclair and Marcus Kelly.

Meanwhile, defenders Aarran Racine and Chris Stokes sat out the yo-yo test as they continue their rehabilition from knee and hamstring injuries.

Boss Ady Pennock said: "The players have comeback in good condition and were given tailored fitness programes during the summer.

"Half the squad were in today for testing and the rest will be in on Friday.

"We will train at the New Lawn on Saturday and then we fly to Scotland on Sunday for a tough bootcamp."
