Andy Mangan set for New Lawn exit?

Stroud News and Journal: LEAVING? Forest Green striker Andy Mangan LEAVING? Forest Green striker Andy Mangan

ANDY Mangan’s stop-start Forest Green career appears to be over after her was left out of pre-season training camp in Scotland.

The Liverpool-based striker returned to pre-season training with Rovers after successfully appealing against his sacking from the club.

He was suspended for disciplinary reasons under the tenure of ex-boss David Hockaday and had his three-year deal cancelled in February.

But the 27-year-old former Wrexham and Fleetwood player took his case to the Football Conference, who then overturned his dismissal.

Boss Ady Pennock said: “Andy isn’t going to feature in our pre-season schedule and we left him at home to train with Scott Bartlett and our Academy.”

Pennock was delighted how his new-look squad bonded during five days at the Inverclyde – National Sports Training Centre in Scotland.

He said: “The boys have worked their socks off and credit to all of them they’ve come back really fit. Each day we had a 7am run, then at 11 o’clock we’d have gym work and then ball work at four in the afternoon.

“There was a really good feeling about the place, the new lads really settled in well, they sang they’re (introductory songs) and they’re were some good voices in there.”

New goalkeeper Steve Arnold is unlikely to appear in the annual clash against fellow Nailsworth outfit Shortwood United at Meadowbank on Saturday,3pm. The former Stevenage stopper tweaked his knee in training.

Chris Stokes and Luke Oliver are set to feature against their Nailsworth neighbours.
