GLOUCESTERSHIRE strengthened their position at the top of Group A with a seven-wicket win over Leicestershire in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Bristol on Tuesday.

Set a Duckworth-Lewis revised target of 131 from 25 overs, captain Michael Klinger led them home with 13 balls to spare as he hit 55 not out, sharing an unbroken stand of 74 with Will Gidman, who compiled 39 off 30 balls.

David Payne was the star with the ball, taking 4-23 from six overs to reduce Leicestershire to 31-4.

They recovered to 61-4 off 15 overs before a two-hour rain delay saw the game shortened and Greg Smith scored 55 not out as they finished on 136-8.

Having played half of their group games, Gloucestershire are two points clear of second-placed Essex, who they face at Chelmsford on Friday.
