QUEDGELEY'S Scott Redding heads across the Atlantic for this weekend’s Indianapolis Grand Prix, the tenth round of the MotoGP World Championship and the start of the all-important second half of the Briton’s rookie MotoGP season.

Seven consecutive points scoring finishes, with the last two at Assen and the Sachsenring coming in difficult conditions, meant that Redding went into the summer break as the highest placed production Honda rider in the championship standings.

The 21-year-old Briton heads into the second half of the season determined to consolidate his position as the fastest Honda RCV1000R rider, starting this weekend in Indianapolis.

While Redding has experience of Indianapolis aboard a Moto2 machine – he secured his first podium finish in the intermediate class there in 2010 – this weekend will be the first time he’s raced the Honda RCV1000R at the iconic circuit.

The Indianapolis track has been significantly revamped over the winter. Five of the 16 turns have been reconfigured and the whole of the infield section has been resurfaced, reducing the advantage for those that have raced there previously.

Redding said: “I enjoy racing in the United States, as the fans really show their support. The city of Indianapolis and everyone in it really gets behind the race and that’s inspiring for us.

"It will be interesting this year as they’ve changed the track layout a little and they’ve completely resurfaced the infield section where, before, we had four different types of asphalt.

"The main straight remains though and the run down there and into the fast turn one should be quite exciting on a MotoGP bike! Starting the second half of the year with an advantage over the other production Honda riders is good, but now we need to continue like this for the remainder of the season.

"I enjoyed the summer break. I managed to relax a little, recharge my batteries and get in enough training so that I’m even stronger for the second half of the season. A lot of my training has been done in hot conditions, in Spain and Florida, as we’re expecting the same here at Indianapolis, so I’m fully prepared for the weekend ahead.”
