JORDAN WEAVING enjoyed a successful weekend at Donington Park, extending his lead in the Motostar British Championship with another race win, writes Alannah Fellows.

Struggling with bike set-up all morning, the Fuelled by XpressCoffee rider went out on track feeling less than confident ahead of his first race of the weekend.

Cirencester Deer Park pupil Weaving got a strong start off the line and held third position in the opening laps, with the leading two pulling away.

As the race hit half-distance, the South African reeled in the leading pair and looked to be challenging for victory.

However, his KTM 250cc didn't have the power to finish the job and he crossed the line in third place, taking second in the Moto3 category.

Finishing behind championship rival Joe Irving meant Weaving's lead in the standings had been closed to just nine points.

Sunny Sunday skies greeted the riders ahead of race two and Stroud-based Weaving started from the second row on the grid in fourth.

Shooting off the line in his trademark manner wasn't enough to keep pace with Irving who was soon away into the distance, leaving Weaving to battle it out with Brad Ray for second position.

However, drama struck as Irving crashed out of the race at the midway point when holding an eight-second lead, leaving Weaving to follow Ray across the line but crucially clinch the Moto3 class victory and extend his championship lead to 34 points with three just rounds remaining.

The next round of the championship is at the Assen circuit in Holland on September 14.
