FOREST Green boss Ady Pennock has landed Newport County striker Christian Jolley on a one-month loan deal.

Jolley, 26, who  was once targeted by former boss David Hockaday, but he opted to sign for the Exiles for around £10,000 in January 2013 and helped to fire his new side to promotion.

Pennock watched Jolley in Newport's 2-1 Johnstone Paints Trophy defeat against Swindon Town on Tuesday, and is now expected to give his new man a start against league leaders Barnet at the New Lawn on Saturday.

Jolley has twice won promotion out of the Vanarama Conference via the play offs with AFC Wimbledon and Newport and will be re-united with former Newport captain David Pipe.

He scored 15 goals in the 2012/13 season between December and April when the Exiles were promoted, including in the play-off final at Wembley.

Newport boss Just Edinburgh is hoping the move can re-ignite the out of favour front man.

“Christian does need games, but we’ve looked at it, I’ve sat down with Christian and we’ve discussed it at length, but in this instance I think the idea is he goes there to a new environment and maybe see if it can re-ignite him,” he told the South Wales Argus.

“First and foremost he needs the minutes, but I think we owed it to Christian to allow him to do that, to try and get back to his best.

“It’s the right time to do that and hopefully Christian can rediscover his goal touch.”
