SHORTWOOD joint- boss Alex Sykes is urging football fans to rock-up to Meadowbank tonight and help his side pull-off another FA Cup slaying.

The Nailsworth minnows welcome Conference South outfit Bath City in a third qualifying replay (7.45pm) with the winners facing a trip to Ryman Premier Thurrock.

Shortwood came close to another upset in the clash at Twerton Park on Saturday and were 2-1 up with just three minutes to go, but Bath snatched a draw to set-up tonight’s replay.

Sykes said: “We held our own on Saturday and on reflection a draw was a fair result, but it was a bit of a double-edged sword, but I was proud and pleased we held our own.”

Sykes is confident in-form Wood can push the Romans all the way.

“That’s 10 games unbeaten now and we can take a lot of positives from the game as we took another Conference South side the distance, but it will take another big effort to beat them.

“Hopefully there will be a big crowd there to roar us on and see us try to pull-off an upset.”

A number of Bath players have derided the Meadowbank pitch and facilities, but this could act as a positive spur for the Shortwood squad.

Sykes added: “I’ve seen a few of them say that our pitch isn’t the best and it’s a bit difficult to get to the ground.

“A lot of them will be quite happy when they get to the top of the hill as the pitch prepared by Squish (Mark Webb) and his team is superb.”

Sykes and joint boss John Evans are set to name an unchanged team but will be without long-term injured trio: James Coates, John Cant and James Singh.
