QUEDGELEY'S Scott Redding declared himself happy with progress made after finishing 18th and within 1.4 seconds of the provisional pole position time on the opening day in Valencia.

The 21-year-old Briton set his fastest time in this afternoon’s second free practice session, finishing just 0.6s behind his teammate Alvaro Bautista on the factory RC213V.

Redding will work on finding further improvements to the set up of his Honda RCV1000R during tomorrow’s final free practice session ahead of the all-important qualifying.

Redding said:“I felt quite good today. From the start I felt confortable on the bike and my lap times have been pretty consistent. We’ve been working well and, so far, I’m happy with the progress we’ve made.

"We are still losing a little bit under braking because of the bumps here, so this is an area on which we’ll focus tomorrow. Both the hard and soft option tyres are working well for us here, so we will leave a decision on the race tyre until tomorrow.”
