THE Rugby for Heroes 2015 calendar, saluting 100 years since the beginning of World War One, is now available.

Clubs and players from all over England have given up their time to muck in and take part in the calendar shoot with each page celebrating everything from the work our boys did in the trenches to the tireless efforts of the horses and dogs used in the war.

The players that feature in the calendar come from all corners of the country. George Ford and his team-mates Anthony Watson and Jonathan Joseph can be found in full World War One uniform, guarding Bath’s Farleigh House. Slightly further north, a group of Worcester Warriors are on the charge in the trenches, with the South East covered fantastically by Saracens boys Will Fraser, Kelly Brown and Andy Goode.

Proceeds from the calendar go to help our current heroes in a number of ways. Rugby for Heroes partners with a number of other armed forces charities who provide specialist support and mentorship programmes. These charities provide a wealth of advice, guidance and support to help overcome some of the most basic challenges that service leavers face, to the more complex issues associated with Post Operational Stress Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Aside from providing financial assistance to charitable benefactors, Rugby for Heroes also engages the wider rugby community and offers practical support by engaging ex-service men and women to get involved in community rugby whether in administration, coaching or playing. The charity also engages the support of the professional rugby player network in various roles from mentoring, coaching and playing in charitable fixtures.

Patron Mike Tindall said; “The soldiers who served in the First World War gave the greatest sacrifice of their lives.

“It was a brutal war that claimed more than 9 million lives with an average of 6046 soldiers killed every day. We all owe a great debt of gratitude to remember the sacrifice of those men and women and those who fell and gave their lives fighting for peace and democracy. The Rugby for Heroes calendar commemorates those who fell in the service of Queen and country and will help make a difference in supporting our military. Please help us to help them.”
