TWO tries and a man-of-the-match display from Gloucester’s Ben Morgan earned England a morale-boosting 26-17 victory over World Cup opponents Australia in the QBE International at Twickenham.

Morgan was the beneficiary of England's forward supremacy as head coach Stuart Lancaster recorded a third win in 14 matches against the southern hemisphere giants following losses earlier in the autumn to New Zealand and South Africa.

George Ford kicked 16 points as, following five losses for the first time since 2006, England enjoyed a second successive win after the defeat of Samoa.

It was by no means straightforward, but Bernard Foley's fine try and Will Skelton's score were not enough for the Wallabies to avoid a third straight loss.

Morgan's performance thrilled Lancaster, who believes the Gloucester No.8’s position in the starting XV is secure.

"He has been one of the stand-outs over the last two games," said Lancaster.

"His inner belief has grown. He's developed as a player. He'll be a hard person to shift now."

Gloucester's Billy Twelvetrees and Jonny May were also in the starting line-up for England.
