FOREST Green boss Ady Pennock is off shopping in the January sales but bargains are going to be hard to come by.

Pennock wants to add four players to boost a new year play-off push but wage demands are proving a stumbling block.

He said: “I know what I want in January and I’ll definitely be busy.

“I’ve enquired about three or four players who want absolutely ridiculous money, and I’ve said before that we have to get the right kind of people in.

“There will be no panic buying. I’m happy with the squad I’ve got but I would like to freshen things up.”

Rovers missed out on the deadline-day signing of Barnet winger Keanu Marsh-Brown but are understood to be tracking Bournemouth striker Matt Tubbs.

Pennock will hope to get Rovers’ season back on track when Kidderminster Harriers visit the New Lawn on Boxing Day (1pm).

The Rovers boss felt his side gifted two goals in the 2-1 defeat at Grimsby on Friday.

He said: “We’ve got to be ruthless in both boxes. The two goals were absolutely atrocious – we can’t concede goals like that,” he commented after the game.

“We come to a big club and we battered them and didn’t get a reward for it.

“In the second half we were banging on the door and to lose a goal like that is not good enough.

“I can’t fault the effort, I thought the effort was absolutely fantastic. We are only that little village on top of that hill and this is a huge club.

“We’ve come here and outplayed them, I thought we out battled them, and the only thing we didn’t do is outscore them.”

A brilliant volley from left- back Chris Stokes looked as though it was going to earn Rovers a share of the points.

And the Rovers boss was quick to praise the ex-Bolton man’s strike as well as the contribution made once again by leading front man, Jon Parkin.

“I thought Parky was different class again. He is becoming what I want him to be and he’s bringing everything to the party at the moment,” added Pennock.

“His holding up play, his work rate – he is doing really well. And Stokesy’s goal was very good – a good strike.”
