Vanarama Conference South side Ebbsfleet United will host Forest Green in the second round of the FA Trophy after they defeated Welling United.
Rovers’ will travel east to the Kent club on Saturday 10 January 2015 in the quest to try and secure a place in the third round of the competition.
An extra-time win at Stonebridge Road secured Ebbsfleet, who operate a level below FGR, the chance to face Ady Pennock’s outfit.
Matt Godden’s strike late on secured victory over a Welling side who are one of our rivals in the Vanarama Conference.
Currently ranked fifth in the Conference South, they are an up and coming side in the non-league sphere and we know plenty about them having faced the Kent club several times over the past few years.
They recently appointed Jamie Day as manager – taking the former Arsenal midfielder away from Welling – and have a number of impressive individuals as part of their squad.
And the match will also be a special one for boss Ady Pennock. He ended his playing career at Ebbsfleet (when they were called Gravesend & Northfleet) and also coached in the youth team at the club.
Ebbsfleet have lifted the FA Trophy once before back in 2008 when they defeated Torquay United in front of over 40,000 fans in the final, at Wembley Stadium.
