Glocuester 33 Oyonnax 3

GLOUCESTER sealed an almost certain home tie in the European Challenge Cup quarter-finals with a straightforward 33-3 victory over Oyonnax at Kingsholm.

Gloucester needed only to avoid defeat to secure their place in the knockout rounds and top Pool Five, but they maintained their perfect group-stage record with a bonus-point win against the French side, who went into the game trailing the Cherry and Whites by seven points.

Gloucester scored three tries in the opening 10 minutes and five tries in total – from Billy Burns, Jonny May, Mark Atkinson, Dan Robson and a penalty try – to seal a comprehensive victory. Greig Laidlaw added four conversions.

But Gloucester's defence had to show a lot of resolve in the second as they came under sustained Oyonnax pressure.
