STROUD racing driver Nick Ponting could again be on the verge of securing a funded drive in the Mazda Supercup championship racing across the UK.

Eight-time champions Blendini Motorsport will be evaluating drivers at the beginning of March at a circuit in Wales. Ponting will take part in a full day evaluation which will include media interviews, fitness tests and close attention to on track performance.

"It's really exciting to be involved in this scholarship. Blendini Motorsport are a very successful and well regarded team in the UK."

The 23-year-old currently holds the UK electric land speed record which he broke in the Ecotricity Nemesis in September 2012.

He added "To potentially be competing in the Mazda Supercup and representing Blendini Motorsport in 2015 would be just brilliant. The championship travels across the UK and visits many tracks I've raced at before in my Ginetta days."

If Ponting is successful on the first day of the evaluation he'll be invited back for a final day test.

The winner of the scholarship will be announced shortly afterwards. To follow his progress - www.nick-ponting.com or tweet him @nickponting
