THE victory over Barnet was more than a win.

It was a clear statement of progress under boss Ady Pennock’s progress that shows the club is ready for the Football League.

Saturday provided so much evidence, both on the field and off.

Everyone knew their job and did it. The skill of Stuart Fleetwood complimented the hard work of Jon Parkin and Elliott Frear was always incisive down the left-wing.

As the final whistle went BBC Radio man Bob Hunt handed me the microphone with the words “John Light, man-of-the-match please”.

For a nano-second I was speechless then blurted out something like this: “Everyone deserves an award, their were successes all over the field, add on the support fans as well.

“They were inspiring throughout. Then of course we must consider manager Pennock and chairman Dale Vince for the support he has given.”

On reflection I got it right. Being there made me very proud.

I mentioned off the field as well or at least very close to it.

The joy, the glee, the general rejoicing of our bench, both players and back room staff during the game showed this is a very together bunch.

We had 245 noisy fans behind the goal. We had 10 equally delighted fans near the visiting dug out.

Then there was the coach travel offer. The Supporters’ club combined with chairman Dale Vince to send two coaches to Barnet.

Supporters club secretary Bob Savage and the versatile Richard Joyce filled in for supremo Sam Reid and deserve much credit for doing so on our happy coach.

This welcome gesture shows how united the club now is. We are all together behind the team, and long may it be so.

The prophets of doom are silent and positivity seems to have banished negativity.

So it should. The players deserve it. The squad are doing us proud, despite being short of two key players in Sam Wedgbury and James Norwood. Ady does not talk of team, instead he uses the word squad and he knows how much those two can contribute, I hope full-fitness is not far away.

Every match will be tough. We are going to need everyone to be available.

On Saturday we encounter Braintree. They will defend dourly and need breaking down.
