COVENTRY City have to decide in the next 24/48 hours whether or not to retain Chris Stokes, whose loan spell came to an end at Fleetwood last night.

The Forest Green left-back couldn’t have done much more to advance his claims for an extended stay – he produced two of City’s best attacking moments in the space of 30 seconds and cleared the home side’s most dangerous effort on the line – and he has helped the Sky Blues claim three wins and two draws in his seven games

Forest Green boss Ady Pennock is happy to part with the former Bolton defender and Coventry boss Tony Mowbray has been pleased with the Gloucester-based defender, who has shown great potential since he was pitched into the fray at Bramall Lane of all places nearly five weeks after his last Conference action.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph:“He’s a young player coming from a level that this is a long way ahead of.

"The demands that have been put on him have tested him but he stood up to those demands tonight, nearly scored and stuck to his job resolutely.

"I’m asking him to play in a slightly different role to what he’s used to – you saw him attacking a lot, getting into advanced areas.

“I like him because he listens to you, looks you in the eye, nods his head and then goes on to the pitch to try to do what you want.”
