Hartpury’s crop of modern pentathletes shone on a busy weekend of international competition to continue their strong showing this season.

On Saturday, Harry Sykes and Bradley Sutton took on the best Under-19s in the country at the Great Britain Youth International event in Birmingham, securing ninth and 10th place finishes respectively.

After producing a solid start in the fencing, both performed particularly well in the swimming section with Harry turning out a new personal best by two seconds and Bradley swimming a season’s best by over four seconds. A solid outing in the final discipline, the combined event, saw the Hartpury pair secure an overall top 10 finish.

The next day, a contingent of five Hartpury pentathletes competed in the West Midlands Regional Triathlon Championships with current modern pentathlon programme manager Mat Dewey leading the way.

Mat secured first place in the men’s group with Will Revell finishing in third. Paris Allen competed in the Under-19s girls’ category and the 17-year-old won each discipline as she powered to first place.

Harry and Bradley were again in action, with the latter securing a second place finish in the Under-19s boys’ category while the former finished in third.

Mat said: “It was a great weekend of competing for everyone involved with some really positive results at a range of high level competitions; that’s a sign of the continuing, rapid development of our talented young pentathletes. We’ll be focusing now on improving on that form further.”
