Wycliffe squash player Jared Carter has won the U15 English title.

The 13-year-old beat Oscar Beach 3-0 in the finals of the English National Championships in Birmingham The Stonehouse-based school had six players in the top five of the championships.

Jared, from Winchester, joined Wycliffe in September and Jonny Harford, Director of Squash at Wycliffe, said he is going from strength to strength.

“Jared is really thriving in our small squad environment and this victory will give him a great boost to his confidence.”

Jared is an excellent prospect for the future, what really stands him out from his rivals is his ability to execute the correct shots under pressure. His mentality is excellent, limiting his mistakes and constantly aware of where the space is around him, making him very difficult to beat.

Classmate Jack Newey, from Exeter in Devon claimed third in the U15 category. Jack has improved a lot this year, becoming more tactically aware and becoming a more complete squash player.

Amelia Henley was pipped at the post by the England Number 1 Georgina Kennedy and lost in the final of the U19 category 3.1. The Year 12 sportswoman is the British Junior U17 National Champion and has been selected to represent England at the European championships in Prague.

Robbie Keefe beat Hampshire team mate and England number 2 Kyle Finch 3.2 in the semi finals. Robbie couldn't repeat his heroics and finished runner-up in the U17 category losing to Charlie Lee in the final.

Ellie Jones, from Bishop’s Cleeve, came fourth in the U17 with her classmate Amber Peacey, from Tewkesbury, placing fifth.

This was without a doubt Wycliffe's best showing in a National individual event and shows the future is bright for Wycliffe Squash.
